The Accord Party has won the Iwo Local Government Area in the Osun State governorship election, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) by a margin of 7,425 votes.
The Accord Party candidate and incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke has won the Iwo Local Government Area (LGA) in the Osun State governorship election with a wide margin.
According to the result sheet, he polled 27,085 votes, defeating his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate , Bola Oyebamiji , who secured 19,660 votes.
The other results were: AA, 130; AAC, 62; ADC, 588; ADP, 191; APGA, 74; APM, 12; APP, 2; BP, 6; NNPP, 3; PRP, 4; SDP, 3; YPP, 26; and ZLP, 181.
According to the results, Iwo LG has 106,874 registered voters, while 48,985 voters were accredited for the election.
The total valid votes were 48,027, while 926 votes were rejected. The total votes cast were 48,953.
The results from the 30 local government areas of Osun State are being announced at their respective LGA collation centres.
However, the results announced at the LGA collation centres are subject to final approval by the INEC Returning Officer at the final collation centre in Osogbo, the state capital, where results from all 30 LGAs are expected to be collated and declared.
Ahead of the election, PREMIUM TIMES reported what residents of Iwo, one of the most populous towns in Osun State, said about the achievements, milestones and shortcomings of the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, during his four-year tenure.
Residents said development recorded in Iwo in recent years has largely centred on infrastructure, particularly road construction and rehabilitation.
The outcome of the election in Iwo appears to reflect the voting preference of a significant number of residents, with the Accord Party emerging as the clear winner in the local government area.
