Operatives of the Nigerian Police have rescued four kidnap victims, arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge during separate operations in Ekiti and Lagos states.
The operations, carried out in Ekiti and Lagos, were disclosed in separate statements issued on Saturday by the spokespersons of the Ekiti State Police Command, SP Sunday Abutu, and the Lagos State Police Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
While the Ekiti operation led to the rescue of four worshippers abducted during an attack on a church in April, the Lagos operation resulted in the arrest of a suspected cultist allegedly on his way to carry out an attack.
Abutu said the four victims “abducted during an attack on the Christ Apostolic Church, Eda-Oniyo, on April 28, 2026”, had been rescued following coordinated security operations.
He said operatives of the Nigeria Police Force worked with the military, other security agencies, the Amotekun Corps, local hunters and the Ekiti State Government in an intelligence-driven operation that secured the victims’ freedom.
The command added that the rescued victims had been taken to a hospital for medical examination and treatment to assess their health and ensure they received appropriate care.
While efforts continue to track down those responsible for the abduction, The Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Michael, commends the dedication, professionalism, and synergy exhibited by all security stakeholders whose collective efforts culminated in the successful rescue of the victims.
Micheal urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency line.
In Lagos, Adebisi said police operatives arrested “Yusuf Lamina Adigun, 27, during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area.”
He said officers intercepted a motorcycle carrying three passengers and recovered a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge from Adigun during a search.
According to Adebisi, the suspect allegedly admitted during preliminary interrogation that he belonged to the Eiye Confraternity and disclosed that he and other members of the group, who escaped arrest, were on their way to attack some individuals before police intercepted them.
He said the suspect remains in police custody while operatives continue efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional weapons that may be in their possession.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led policing and proactive operations aimed at combating cultism and other violent crimes across the State.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information that will assist the Police in preventing crime and ensuring the safety and security of all.
Both commands assured continued efforts to apprehend fleeing suspects, combat crime through intelligence-led operations and maintain the safety of residents in their respective states.
