Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Receives Nigeria’s New Ambassador

Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Borisenko Evgenievich, has received Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Joseph Iji, in Moscow.

The meeting, which took place on Thursday, was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Ms. Daria Senyushina, Communications Officer at the Russian Embassy in Nigeria.

According to the statement, Ambassador Iji presented copies of his credentials during the engagement.

Both sides reportedly discussed ways of strengthening the longstanding friendly relations between Nigeria and Russia, with emphasis on expanding political dialogue and deepening bilateral cooperation.

The discussions also covered key areas such as trade, economic development, science and technology, humanitarian affairs, and other strategic sectors.

Diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the former Soviet Union have existed for more than six decades, with Russia maintaining an embassy in Abuja and a consulate in Lagos.

Over the years, both countries have sustained cooperation in areas including trade, education, energy, and military relations, reflecting a growing and dynamic partnership.
