Terrorists Killed, Kidnapped Victims Rescued In Zamfara Military Operation

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, killed two suspected terrorists, rescued three kidnapped victims, and recovered weapons and other items during separate operations across Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.

The operations, conducted on June 12, 2026, targeted terrorist activities in communities within the two local government areas and led to the destruction of terrorist hideouts.

The Acting Deputy Director of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, said troops on patrol made contact with a group of terrorists in Yanbuki District, Zurmi Local Government Area.

He explained that the patrol covered Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa communities before the encounter with the armed group.

Providing details, he said, “In the ensuing firefight, the gallant troops neutralized one terrorist and recovered rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, and two MP3 players as well as one woodland camouflage trouser and an inner vest.

“As the patrol advanced to Sabon Garin Daudawa, the terrorists, sensing the superior firepower of the advancing troops, abandoned their camp and fled before the troops’ arrival.

“The troops subsequently cleared and destroyed the terrorists’ enclave.”

The operation formed part of ongoing military efforts to disrupt terrorist movements and dismantle their operational bases in parts of Zamfara State affected by insecurity.

In a separate operation along the Shinkafi–Moriki axis, troops conducting a routine patrol laid an ambush for suspected terrorists and engaged them during a confrontation.

According to Osoba, the encounter resulted in the death of another suspected terrorist. At the same time, troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, a Baofeng communication radio, two motorcycles, and assorted charms believed to have been used by the suspects.

During the operations, troops also secured the release of three kidnapped victims who had been held in captivity by the criminal elements operating within the area.

Osoba stated, “It is worthy of note that the troops successfully rescued three kidnapped victims during the operations. The rescued individuals are currently receiving necessary care, and efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their respective families.”

Osoba noted that efforts to track down fleeing suspects and prevent the re-establishment of terrorist camps in the affected areas remain ongoing.

According to him, the Army will continue to conduct patrols and clearance operations aimed at improving security and restoring normalcy across vulnerable communities in the North-West region.

The military urged residents to support security operations by providing timely and credible information that could assist efforts to identify criminal hideouts, prevent attacks, and enhance public safety.
