The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia, Kanayo Uzuegbu, is dead.
Alex Otti announced the sad development on Saturday in Umuahia, revealing that the senior police officer passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer.
The governor expressed deep sorrow over Uzuegbu’s death, describing him as a diligent, hardworking, and committed officer who served the nation with dedication and professionalism.
Otti offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
A minute’s silence was observed in honour of the late police chief at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, where the governor made the announcement during his acceptance speech after emerging as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for a second term ahead of the 2027 election.
The passing of AIG Uzuegbu has since drawn grief from members of the police community and other stakeholders who knew him during his distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force.
