Voting Portal Goes Live as Consumers Value Awards Opens

The public voting portal for the 2026 Consumers Value Awards (CVA) is now officially open, marking the beginning of the next phase of one of the country’s growing consumer-driven recognition platforms.

The opening of the voting portal follows a highly engaging nomination phase which attracted over 210 nominations from consumers across multiple sectors of the Nigerian economy, including telecommunications, banking, healthcare, FMCG, transportation, hospitality, retail, technology, and public institutions.

According to Akonte Ekine, Convener of the Consumers Value Awards and Chief Executive Officer of BrandXchange, the initiative continues to provide a platform where consumers can actively influence conversations around value, trust, service delivery, accountability, and customer experience.
Four Years of Consumer Voices.

Since its inception in 2022, the Consumers Value Awards has steadily evolved from a recognition programme into a broader movement focused on consumer participation and accountability.

Over the last four editions, the platform has recorded more than 800 nominations involving brands, products, services, and public institutions, while attracting over 38,000 consumer votes from individuals seeking to recognize organizations that consistently deliver value.

The awards were established on a simple principle: recognition should not be determined solely in boardrooms or by industry insiders, but by the people who actually use products and services every day.

“We are now enabled and empowered by technology to say it when we see it or feel it,” Ekine stated.

The 2026 edition continues to promote a broader conversation around consumer value.

According to the organizers, while consumer protection remains important, today’s marketplace increasingly requires organizations to focus on proactively delivering value through reliability, responsiveness, transparency, fair pricing, innovation, consistency, and overall customer satisfaction.
“Consumer protection prevents harm. Consumer value ensures benefit and dignity,” Ekine explained.

“In today’s economy, consumers are not only asking whether a product is affordable. They are asking whether it is worth it. The conversation is shifting from merely protecting consumers to creating meaningful experiences that justify trust and loyalty.”Citizens Scorecard Expands Public Accountability
A key feature of the initiative remains the Citizens Scorecard, which extends consumer assessment beyond private-sector brands to include government agencies and public institutions.

The inclusion of public institutions recognizes that citizens interact with government services just as frequently as they engage with private-sector organizations.
Interestingly, several Federal and State government agencies earned nominations through direct consumer participation and engagement, including agencies responsible for communications, aviation, public orientation, consumer protection, and product regulation.
The Citizens Scorecard continues to provide a channel through which consumers can publicly recognize institutions they believe are demonstrating commitment to service delivery, responsiveness, and public value.

Growing Institutional Recognition

Over the years, the Consumers Value Awards has received goodwill messages, participation, attendance, and support from major regulatory and public institutions including the Nigerian Communications Commission, Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
This growing engagement reflects increasing recognition of the importance of consumer participation in evaluating service quality and institutional performance.

Consumers Hold the Final Decision

With nominations now concluded, the responsibility shifts to consumers nationwide to determine which organizations have demonstrated excellence in delivering value.
The voting process remains open, transparent, digital, and accessible, allowing consumers to vote for nominated brands and institutions based on their personal experiences and perceptions.

“The response during the nomination phase has shown clearly that consumers want to participate in the conversation around value delivery,” Ekine said.
“Every vote is a statement about what we value as consumers and citizens. If consumers do not participate, they surrender the opportunity to influence the standards they expect from brands and institutions.”
