Gbenga Power visits victims of demolition in Oluwole market & fire disaster in Docemo
…donates N2.5 Million to victims
In an uncommon demonstration of empathy and solidarity, Hon Gbenga Power-Oyekunle, paid a sympathy visit to the victims of Docemo Street, Lagos Island inferno which consumed goods and valuables of traders on the street and adjoining streets.
Following a fire incident which engulfed the Street on 9th of April this year, six buildings reportedly collapsed and goods valued at millions of Naira burnt to ashes, while valuable properties were destroyed.
Many of the victims are of Kwara origin who have for decades dominated trade and commerce on Docemo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Horo Pedro, Tom Jones Streets and other areas of Lagos Island.
Hon Gbenga Power, who was received by Kwara traders led by Alhaji Sikiru Arije, sympathised with the traders on their loss, but thank God that no life were lost in the unfortunate incident.
He assured the agitated traders that the government would not abandon them in their hours of need, urging the traders to continue to be law abiding and peaceful.
Hon. Power-Oyekunle was also at the Oluwole Market, Lagos, where he identified with traders whose shops were demolished, imploring them to remain hopeful and be determined to overcome the temporary hurdle.
The philanthropist made a personal donation of 2.5 million naira to the traders.
He conveyed goodwill messages from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, the Elese of Igbaja, Oba Awuni Arepo as well as the Jagunmolu of Igbomina Land, Chief Abdulraheem Oladimeji.
The traders, impressed by this gesture, commended Hon Gbenga Power, noting that although he is not holding any public office, but he continues to reach out to the needy, using his personal resources.
They assured him that the gesture will not go unrewarded at the appropriate time.
