Billionaire business mogul Dr Samuel Maduka Onyishi has revealed that he routinely cuts his hair as a means of saving money. According to him, what makes one wealthy is not about how much one has, but having the knowledge of saving one’s incomes.
Dr Onyishi, who is the Chancellor of Maduka University, Ekwegbe-Nsukka, in Enugu State, disclosed this during a Business Master Class which he hosts for the students of the entrepreneur university. He warned the undergraduates of the university about the dangers of extravagant spending.
Quoting him, “You can get all the money in the world, but if you don’t know how to save through discipline, you cannot become a wealthy person. As our students, you are not going to have the number of children you can dream of. You are not going to leave in a four-bedroom apartment when what you can pay for is one-bedroom. The house you live should not take more than a certain percent of the money you earn. The food you eat, your social life, and clothes you wear should be the ones that will help you save money. If you are doing an expensive hairstyle, it will cost you money to maintain.”
He explained that one of the ways he builds his wealth is by not patronising barber’s shops. In his words, “Do you see my hair? It requires no expenses: na me dey barb myself. We are here to teach you the right way to make money, and not criminal ways to make money. We want to be proud of you. And it is not how much you are making that makes you rich, it is how well you are able to manage the little that you are getting.”
NEWSNGR reported that Dr Onyishi in June last year converted his Amukwa village castle, located at Nsukka, to the teaching hospital of Maduka University. He stated in a post that the conversion is in tandem with the maxim that, “Charity begins at home”. He added that with the conversion, he becomes “the first billionaire without a house in his community.”
Dr Onyishi, it was gathered, is the Chief Executive of Peace Mass Transit Ltd, and also has stakes in shipping and banking sectors.
