Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has assured residents that no property will be demolished for government projects without adequate compensation, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting the rights of affected citizens.
The governor gave the assurance while presenting compensation cheques to 122 households affected by the ongoing 15-kilometre Ring Road project stretching from Danbushiya Junction to Danhono II in Millennium City.
Sani said infrastructure development must be driven by fairness and compassion, stressing that public projects should not come at the expense of citizens’ rights and livelihoods.
He explained that construction on parts of the road project was deliberately slowed after it became clear that several homes and structures fell within the project’s right-of-way, allowing government officials to properly assess affected properties before work continued.
According to him, the compensation exercise reflects the government’s responsibility to ensure residents are not unjustly displaced.
He noted that the payments were intended to help beneficiaries relocate and rebuild their lives with dignity rather than being viewed as acts of charity.
The governor disclosed that his administration has paid compensation to hundreds of households impacted by various road projects across the state, including communities in Rigasa, Mahuta, Zaria, Audi, Kako, Dogon Bauchi, Kakiyeyi and the Kabala Costain corridor.
He said more than N3bn has so far been disbursed as compensation to residents affected by government infrastructure projects.
Sani pledged that the state would continue to maintain a transparent and equitable compensation process, insisting that development must always be balanced with justice, empathy and respect for the welfare of citizens.
