Students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, under the auspices of the Students’ Union Government, SUG, have elected a new set of student leaders, with Ajayi Olusegun Samuel emerging as the new President.
The election, conducted online, had its collation centre and situation room located in Ado-Ekiti. The exercise was monitored by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Tajudeen Opoola, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Partnerships, Research, Innovation and Linkages), Prof. Olubunmi Shittu, who served as observers.
Chairman of the Students Electoral Body, Odelami Moses Ayotunde of the Department of History and International Studies, said 16,366 students were accredited to participate in the election.
Ayotunde, who led a 38-member electoral committee drawn from all faculties of the university, described the exercise as free, fair and credible.
“This is the most seamless and credible election that I have witnessed since becoming a student of FUOYE,” he said.
The newly elected SUG President, Ajayi Olusegun Samuel, popularly known as “AOS The Unifier,” is a 400-level student of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the Ikole Campus.
Known among his peers for his generosity, reliability and commitment to service, Ajayi has built a reputation as a student leader, public speaker, entrepreneur and advocate for student welfare.
According to the electoral committee chairman, the new president has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities throughout his academic journey and has actively participated in initiatives aimed at improving the academic, social and welfare experiences of students.
“Olusegun has held several leadership positions and has consistently contributed to programmes designed to enhance student development and campus life,” Ayotunde said.
A 400-level Political Science student, Bolu Fashakin, described Ajayi’s victory as a reflection of the confidence students have in his leadership ability.
“The new president’s dedication to service, unity and student development has earned him the trust and confidence of the student body,” Fashakin said.
Other officials elected into the Students’ Union Government include Taiwo Victor Oluwadarasimi as Vice President; Olatunbosun Oluwaferanmi Faith as General Secretary; Rabiu Azeez Olawale as Assistant General Secretary; and Okoro Chukwuemeka as Social Director.
Also elected were Isaac Ebenezer Ekoyon as Sports Director; Akere Daniel Oluwamuyiwa as Director of Transport; Oyelakin Ayodeji Solomon as Financial Secretary; Shobayo Olatunbosun Olasunkanmi as Treasurer; Oni Olaoluwa Elijah as Public Relations Officer; and Salami Nimotalai Moyinoluwa as Welfare Director.
The newly elected executives are expected to steer the affairs of the student union and champion the welfare and interests of students across the university’s campuses.
