Mr Akande voted earlier on Saturday at the polling unit designated as PU 12, Ward 4, in Atogbade area of Ila-Orangun, Ila Local Government Area of Osun State.
The founding interim national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande, has won his polling unit in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
The recorded 181 votes for the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, while Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party polled 121 votes.
Mr Akande, fondly called by his political allies and supporters as ‘Baba Omokeekeeke’ meaning “father of small children,” served as the governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003 on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
Following his tenure as governor, he served as the national chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Action Congress (AC) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) for 11 consecutive years, from 2003 to 2014.
He subsequently became the founding interim national chairman of the APC.
