Lagos Police Dismiss School Attack Threat, Tighten Security

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports of an imminent bandit attack on schools in the state, assuring residents that there is no verified intelligence indicating any planned abduction of schoolchildren.

The reassurance followed the circulation of a notice allegedly pasted at a school, claiming that bandits intended to attack and kidnap pupils.

The Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement on Monday, urged parents, guardians, school authorities and residents to remain calm and avoid panic.

“The Command wishes to reassure parents, guardians, school authorities, and all residents that there is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State. While every security concern is treated with the utmost seriousness, members of the public are advised to remain calm and avoid panic,” the command said.

The State Command Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has ordered an immediate assessment of the situation and directed the deployment of enhanced security measures across the affected area and other strategic locations in the state.

According to the command, police personnel, working with other security agencies, have been deployed to strengthen security around schools, critical infrastructure and communities.

The Command stressed that Lagos remains secure and that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent criminal elements from operating within the state.

It also warned that it would not tolerate any attempt by bandits, kidnappers or other criminal elements to threaten public safety, adding that anyone found engaging in acts capable of causing fear, panic or insecurity would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The command further urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that effective policing depends on cooperation between the public and law enforcement authorities. It also assured residents that all necessary steps are being taken to guarantee the continued safety and security of people across the state.

“Security is a collective responsibility, and effective policing thrives on active partnership between the Police and members of the public,” the Command urged.
