Police detain 28-year-old for robbing POS operator at gunpoint

The police said, “A Beretta-like pistol and an expended 9mm ammunition shell were recovered from him, while the suspect has confessed to the crime during interrogation.”
The Police Command in Enugu State has detained a 28-year-old suspect for allegedly robbing a female Point-of-Sale (POS) operator of N200,000 at gunpoint in Obollo-Afor within Udenu Local Government Area of the state.
Mr Ndukwe, a superintendent of police, said that on 18 October at about 12:26 p.m., police operatives attached to Udenu Division, supported by members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, arrested and detained the suspect.
He said the detention of the suspect followed a report that he had robbed the victim at her shop along Old Orba Road, Uhulor, Obollo-Afor, on 17 October at about 9 a.m.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim raised the alarm as the suspect fled and was allegedly threatening to shoot anyone pursuing him.
“A Beretta-like pistol and an expended 9mm ammunition shell were recovered from him, while the suspect has confessed to the crime during interrogation.
“The suspect will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations,” Mr Ndukwe said.
Mr Ndukwe quoted the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, as commending the operatives for the successful operation and acknowledged the complementary support provided by the neighbourhood watch group.
The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crime and urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities to the police and other recognised security agencies.
