Terrorists killed as NAF launches airstrike in Niger

Several terrorists were killed after the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma Sector 1 conducted a series of intelligence-led airstrikes in Niger State.

Nigerian Air Force spokesperson Ehimen Ejodame, in a statement, said the precision strikes were carried out between May 20 and 23, 2026, across Rafi and Mariga Local Government Areas, following credible intelligence on the movement and convergence of terrorists in the region.

The operations were executed in collaboration with the Nigerian Army Space Command Regiment.

“On 21 May 2026, terrorists moving on motorcycles and on foot with rustled cattle from Tungunguna towards Uregi were positively identified and engaged.

“This resulted in their neutralisation and the destruction of their mobility and withdrawal capability,” Ejodame said.

He added that on the same day, the Air Component provided close air support to troops in contact with terrorists at Tungan Makeri, successfully engaging the assailants and restoring operational advantage to friendly forces.

On May 23, 2026, the Air Component conducted armed reconnaissance missions over Dogon Dawa and adjoining locations in Mariga LGA as part of sustained offensive operations.

“Post-strike assessments confirmed the effectiveness of the missions in degrading terrorist capabilities and denying the terrorists freedom of action within the general area,” Ejodame stated.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the professionalism and precision of the personnel involved. He assured Nigerians that the Nigerian Air Force would continue to sustain aggressive, intelligence-driven air operations aimed at neutralising terrorist threats, protecting innocent lives, and restoring lasting peace across all troubled regions.
