President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday received the President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, during a courtesy visit to the State House, Abuja.
The visit came ahead of Badejo-Okusanya’s formal assumption of office as the next president of the NBA.
Tinubu, who had earlier congratulated Badejo-Okusanya on her election, described her emergence as a historic moment for the legal profession and a major boost for women’s participation in leadership.
According to the President, her election represents “a watershed in the legal profession” and a triumph for merit, excellence and gender inclusion. He said her victory showed that Nigerian women can attain any height in their chosen careers, whether in the private sector or public service.
Tinubu also said Badejo-Okusanya’s emergence reflected the growing recognition of women’s invaluable contributions to nation-building and the administration of justice.

He expressed confidence that her leadership would further strengthen the legal profession by upholding the rule of law and supporting reforms that enhance access to justice for Nigerians.
Badejo-Okusanya was accompanied on the visit by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Caleb University, Prof. Foluke Dada-Lawanson; the President of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Mrs Ezinwa Okoroafor; the FCT Lead of the NBA Women Forum, Princess Hadiza Afegbua; and the BBold Campaign Team Publicity Lead, Mrs Ramlat Ridhwan.
Badejo-Okusanya was recently elected as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association after polling 9,891 votes in the association’s national election.
She will become the second woman to lead the NBA after Chief Priscilla Kuye, who served as president from 1991 to 1992.
She is expected to succeed Afam Osigwe, SAN, at the NBA Annual General Conference scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt next month, where she will formally assume office for a two-year tenure.
