2027: Martins’ Renewed Hope Football Tourney Targets 5,000 Nigerian Youths

Former Inter Milan and Super Eagles forward, Obafemi Martins, is set to lead a youth empowerment drive through the Renewed Hope Football Tournament — PBAT–KOH 2026, expected to attract more than 5,000 young Nigerians across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

The initiative, organised in partnership with the Obafemi Martins Foundation and the City Boy Movement, led by Barrister Seyi Tinubu, is designed to use football as a platform for talent discovery, youth development and access to opportunities.

The tournament will provide aspiring footballers with opportunities to showcase their abilities, with European scouts expected to attend and identify promising talents for further development.

Organisers also plan to award scholarships to outstanding players, while exceptional performers could earn opportunities to travel to Europe to advance their football careers.

Beyond the pitch, the initiative seeks to integrate mentorship, skills development, technology and community engagement into a broader programme aimed at connecting young people with education, training and employment pathways.

The organisers said the tournament would encourage youth participation in community life while creating opportunities for talented players to pursue their ambitions in football and other fields.

With activities planned across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, the competition is expected to provide a wider platform for grassroots talents who may lack access to professional scouting and development opportunities.

The grand finale is scheduled for November 28 at the Onikan Stadium Arena in Lagos State.

Through the initiative, Martins and his partners hope to bridge the gap between grassroots football and wider opportunities, using the sport’s reach to inspire young Nigerians and support the next generation of talent.
