Two women have been arraigned before the Ikeja Magisterial District Court for allegedly inflicting wound and grievous harm on a woman at Meiran area of Lagos State.
The two women, Ejikeme Chioma, 42 years old, and Favour Sunday, 17 years old, were arraigned before Magistrate Mrs. M.O. Tanimola on a two-count charge bordering on unlawful infliction of wound and grievous harm.
The case with Charge No. nuk/B/104/26 is between the Commissioner of Police and the two women. The prosecutor in the matter is ASP Lucky Ihehie, while the Investigating Police Officer is Inspector Bukola Emmanuel of Meiran Police Station. The District Prosecutor’s Office, Ogba, approved the charge for arraignment and the file is to be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, for legal advice.
According to the charge sheet filed before the court, the prosecution alleged that the two women on August 9, 2026, at about 7:00 am, at No. 9, Maria Bada Street, Alaro, Meiran, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, unlawfully inflicted wound on one Fatimo Ganiyu by allegedly using a bunch of broom to hit her on the mouth which resulted in injury.
The prosecution further alleged that the act resulted in injury that led to loss of teeth and is contrary to and punishable under Section 246 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
In the second count, the prosecution alleged that the two women on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, caused grievous harm on the same complainant, an offence said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 245 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The charges were read and interpreted to the two women in court. When asked to take their plea, the two women pleaded not guilty to the two counts preferred against them.
The arraignment was conducted on August 18, 2026, and the prosecution informed the court that investigation into the matter had been concluded at the police station level, with the IPO finalizing the case file for prosecution.
Following their plea, the prosecutor, ASP Lucky Ihehie, applied for an adjournment and requested that the court impose stringent bail conditions to ensure the attendance of the defendants at trial and to prevent interference with the complainant and witnesses in the matter.
In her ruling, Magistrate Mrs. M.O. Tanimola granted the two women bail with sureties who must show evidence of means of livelihood and evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. The court stated that the sureties must be verifiable, of good character, and resident within the jurisdiction of the court, with their addresses to be verified by the court registrar.
The magistrate further ordered that the two women be remanded at the Correctional Centre, Kirikiri Town, Lagos, pending the perfection of their bail conditions. The matter was thereafter adjourned for further mention and possible legal advice from the DPP.
The incident, which allegedly occurred at Maria Bada Street, Alaro, Meiran, has attracted attention in the community as residents await the outcome of the legal process and the complainant is expected to receive medical attention.
The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court of competent jurisdiction.
