The Adamawa State Police Command has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Guyuk Local Government Area of the state, following reports implicating a serving police officer.

The allegation has raised concerns over the safety of minors and the responsibility of security personnel to protect vulnerable members of society.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the police command said it had taken note of media reports concerning the alleged incident and described the matter as serious, particularly because it involves a minor and an officer entrusted with protecting lives and property.

The Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hassan, directed that the allegation be investigated thoroughly, professionally and impartially to establish the facts and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.

The command also stressed that no police officer is above the law, warning that any personnel found to have engaged in criminal conduct or professional misconduct would face appropriate legal and disciplinary action.

“The Command wishes to reiterate that no officer is above the law,” the statement said.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, on behalf of the commissioner.

The police did not disclose further details about the alleged incident or the identity and status of the officer reportedly implicated.

The command said additional information would be made available as the investigation progresses.
