The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has reopened the barricaded slip road linking the Goodluck Jonathan Expressway with Ring Road II at the Galadimawa Interchange to ease traffic congestion.

The road was barricaded on July 7, 2026, to mitigate flooding during the rainy season.

The Director of FEMD, Engr. Muhammad Dikko, on Tuesday, explained that the slip road was reopened following the end of the rainy season.

“The onset of the rainy season in Abuja is usually in May, and the slip road is typically flooded every year, necessitating its closure,” he said.

He added that the Federal Capital Development Authority and the Department of Development Control were working to address the environmental challenges responsible for the recurring flooding.

“These agencies are proactive and are working towards a solution,” Dikko said.

Also speaking, an official of the development control department, Engr. Abdulkadir Musa, said the removal of the barricade was intended to reduce traffic congestion on Ring Road II.

“With the opening of the slip road, all the traffic heading to Airport Road can now pass through,” Musa said.

He assured that the reopened road would ease traffic congestion from ISEX/S20, also known as Oladipo Diya Way, where construction work has affected traffic movement.
