The Unubiko Foundation, led by Chief Chijioke James Ume, Ike Abam, has commenced the construction of a 500-capacity civic hall at Amaelu Abam, the ancestral headquarters of Abam clan in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the project, held on Friday, was performed by the Rector of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, Engr. Christopher Okoro Kalu, on behalf of the Foundation.

Speaking at the event, Kalu assured the community that the project would be completed and commissioned on December 26, 2026.

He said the facility, upon completion, would provide a central venue for cultural celebrations, social gatherings and community development activities among the people of Abam Onyerubi.

The rector described Chief Ume as an exceptional philanthropist whose commitment to the development of Abam remained unwavering.

He noted that the Unubiko Foundation had continued to contribute to human capital development, infrastructure provision and community advancement across Abam, Arochukwu Local Government Area and beyond.

In their remarks, Ndi Ezego Abam, traditional title holders and other community stakeholders, commended Chief Ume for his numerous contributions to the development of the area.

They described the civic hall project as historic and timely, stressing that Amaelu Abam, as the ancestral headquarters of the clan, deserved a befitting facility for preserving its cultural heritage and hosting major community engagements.

The traditional title holders and stakeholders pledged their support for the successful completion of the project and other development initiatives of the Foundation.

They also prayed for God’s continued blessings upon Chief Ume and the Unubiko Foundation.

The ceremony attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youth groups, who expressed excitement over the project.

The Unubiko Foundation, through Chief Ume, has in recent years undertaken several community intervention programmes, including road palliatives, educational assistance, medical outreaches and empowerment initiatives across Abam communities.
