Drone Strike On Sudan Market Kills 21

At least 21 people have been killed and 40 others injured in a drone strike on a market in Nyala, western Sudan.
The strike occurred on Monday at about 8pm local time in the northern part of the city, according to witnesses and a medical source who spoke to Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Tuesday.
Nyala is the de facto capital of Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been fighting the Sudanese Armed Forces since April 2023.
A resident told AFP that the market was frequented by young men, including RSF fighters.
However, it was not immediately clear who carried out the strike or whether the intended target was the market or people operating there.
The latest attack comes amid an escalation of drone strikes across Sudan, where the conflict between the army and the RSF has caused widespread displacement and a severe humanitarian crisis.
The fighting has increasingly affected markets, residential areas and other civilian locations, raising concerns over the safety of people caught in the conflict.
The war began in April 2023 following a power struggle between Sudan’s military and the RSF. It has since killed thousands of people and forced millions from their homes.
