The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 19 suspected cybercrime fraudsters following a sting operation at Applewood Estate, Orchid Road, Lekki, Lagos State.

The commission said its operatives from the Lagos Directorate 1 conducted the operation at about 5am on Monday, October 26, 2026, arresting 21 suspects and recovering five exotic cars.

According to the EFCC, the suspects allegedly obtained money from unsuspecting victims through gift cards, cryptocurrencies and international money transfers by impersonating other people.

The commission said preliminary investigations indicted 19 of the 21 suspects, while the remaining two were released.

It added that the indicted suspects would be arraigned in court.

The EFCC said the operation followed surveillance and reconnaissance of the suspects’ activities.

It also addressed reports concerning a young woman who allegedly attempted to alert the suspects by making telephone calls during the operation.

According to the commission, the woman was held and her phone confiscated until the operation ended, after which the device was returned to her.

The agency maintained that the operation was conducted professionally, with no harassment, intimidation or unlawful arrest recorded.

It urged Nigerians to condemn cybercrime and other financial offences, saying such activities damage the country’s reputation.

The commission also said it remained open to constructive engagement but warned against attempts to undermine its anti-corruption mandate.

The suspects are expected to face trial, and the allegations against them have yet to be established in court.
