Lagos Obidient Movement Supporter Allegedly Arrested By DSS Operatives

Lagos State governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Funso Doherty, has raised the alarm over the alleged arrest of a party supporter, Rilwan Olawale, by men who identified themselves as operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Doherty disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying Olawale, a strong NDC supporter associated with the Obidient movement, a group that supports NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, was allegedly picked up by armed men in the early hours of the day.
He said the circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear, adding that there was no official confirmation of Olawale’s exact whereabouts.
“This afternoon, reports reached me that Mr. Rilwan Olawale, a strong NDC supporter, who is also identified with the Obidient movement, was allegedly picked up by some armed men who identified themselves as operatives of the Department of State Services in the very early hours of today, Sunday 25th October.
“The circumstances surrounding this situation are still unclear and there is no official confirmation of his exact whereabouts,” Doherty said.
According to Doherty, efforts are ongoing to establish the facts surrounding the incident and secure access to Olawale
“We are in contact with his family as well as with legal counsel who are working to gain access to him and to establish the relevant facts,” he said.
The NDC governorship candidate urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid speculation while efforts to ascertain the facts continued.
He also called for Olawale’s rights to be fully respected and for justice to be served.
