The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Ifeanyi Jeremiah Obi, over alleged theft of mobile phones at hotels in Awka, Isuaniocha and Mgbakwu communities.
The suspect was arrested in the early hours of October 25 by operatives of the Amanuke Police Division following investigations into reported cases of phone theft.
The police said a review of surveillance footage allegedly linked Obi to the incidents.
According to the command, the suspect confessed during interrogation to stealing five Android phones from hotels in the affected communities.
The police said investigations were ongoing to recover the stolen phones, determine the full extent of the alleged offences and identify other possible suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, urged hotel operators, business owners and members of the public to strengthen their security measures and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
