PHOTO: Lagosians Trek As Rain Disrupts Bus Movement

Some Lagosians resorted to trekking on Monday afternoon after heavy rainfall disrupted commercial bus movement into the Tollgate area, NewsNGR reports.

The rain began with a drizzle at about 1:50 p.m. before temporarily stopping. It intensified around 2:10 p.m. and finally stopped at about 3:20 p.m.

After the rain stopped, many commuters who had waited for more than 30 minutes at bus stops for vehicles heading towards Ajegunle resorted to trekking, as no buses arrived to pick them up, THE WHISTLER reports.

Among those seen trekking were schoolchildren.

A commuter who had spent several minutes at a bus stop told THE WHISTLER that the disruption might have been caused by flash floods.

“I suspect that the rain may have caused flooding and affected bus movement,” he told THE WHISTLER correspondent.

However, the reason for the temporary disruption in commercial bus movement had yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

Traffic returned to normal after about an hour, but not before many commuters had trekked several kilometres. Some may have even reached their destinations before commercial bus services resumed.

The commuter’s suggestion comes amid previous incidents of flash flooding in parts of Lagos State.

On June 28, heavy rainfall inundated several areas of the state, disrupting vehicular movement and leaving roads waterlogged.

In Gbagada, floodwaters disrupted traffic, with several vehicles developing faults after driving through submerged roads. Some vehicles were stranded in the floodwaters, forcing motorists to stop and inspect them for possible damage.

The Ikota area was also heavily affected, with roads completely submerged.
